Aitoro was established in South Norwalk on Ely Avenue in 1948 by Anthony, Vincent and Rudy Aitoro to sell and service appliances, TV’s and radios -- back then, basic washing machines, ovens, refrigerators and black & white sets. (Traces of the original hand-painted Aitoro sign are still visible on the Diane Knitware building by the South Norwalk train station.) They were joined a few years later by their oldest brother, Carmine.

Over the years, the family-owned business expanded to keep pace with the growth of Norwalk and the appliance and electronics industry. In 1963, a larger building was needed, so the company opened a new store at 401 Westport Avenue. Joining the family business were the next generation of Aitoro’s: David, Vincent Jr. and Tony.

Even after two major additions, by 2003 Aitoro had outgrown their second building. The family needed a brand new, state-of-the-art store that would keep pace with their industry while maintaining their identity as a destination, serving the Norwalk and beyond.

The site of the new building? Right next to their previous one -- the former parking lot and car wash. This location, at the end of the adjacent shopping center, gave Aitoro an anchor spot, connecting their warehouse directly to the retail store.

Filled with the finest brand names in appliances and home entertainment, Aitoro attracts shoppers from not just Norwalk, but Fairfield and Westchester Counties and beyond, as the store to browse through for great ideas,  the best products, knowledgeable sales assistance and dependable service; in short, a store of which the original founders could be proud.
